Then I clicked on the next field of the form to attach an image (I had taken a screenshot of a blank canvas in Photoshop to illustrate the problem), and the entire form reset and all of my hard work was lost. I spent about 10 minutes writing an essay which contains a lot of the stuff you're reading here, then went back and edited out a diatribe about capitalism and a weird part about feet. Presumably this form allows someone to type out a more detailed explanation of their problem and get more hands-on help than you can get through the live chat, but I wouldn't know. Instead of a "live chat" option there was just a "send us a message" form.

Then I had to restart my computer again after re-installing the same driver for the dozenth time, and I couldn't connect to anyone at all. Then I obliged them and went through all of the steps again, with the added frustration that when I restarted my computer I got reconnected to a different person so I had to wait for them to catch up on what I had already tried. I was instructed to try everything I had already tried so I had an existential crisis. At this point my computer is closer to figuring out how the net amount of entropy of the universe can be massively decreased than it is to recognizing when I press a button on my Intuos Pro.Īfter all of this, I tried contacting Wacom support using the "live chat" support on their website. I don't remember which time I tried this, as the last 4 hours of my life are all starting to melt together as just a constant loop of installing, restarting, uninstalling, restarting, installing, restarting. And I couldn't believe it, but this time it actually worked! JUST KIDDING I WANT TO DIE.Īt some point during all of this, I also tried downloading an older version of the driver, which resulted in me receiving the same message, but from an older-looking interface. So I did it AGAIN, but this time I also ran CCleaner and had it clean up my registry, which resulted in it removing some Wacom-related entries.

So I followed the instructions again to remove the drivers from my most recent failed attempt, but this time I also ran a search on my entire computer for any file containing the letters "wac" and deleted everything I found that was Wacom-related. That's when I found this article: How do I uninstall (manually) and re-install the Wacom driver on Windows for a Pen Tablet, Pen Display, or Pen Computer?, and followed the instructions there. Then I restarted my computer, re-installed the drivers for the Intuos Pro, restarted again, and still had the same problem. After my initial failure to set up my Intuos Pro, I suspected that old/conflicting drivers might be the problem, so I went through my programs and uninstalled anything related to "Wacom," "Bamboo," "Tablet," "PTH-660," or "CTH-660".

I think I had to download an older driver than the recommended one to get it to work, and I remember the software not really working right with it either, but I made do with it. I don't even think I had the correct drivers for that tablet, as I remember going through similar frustration with it as well. I have a Wacom Bamboo (CTH-460) that I have been using on this computer. The problem I want to solve today is that my computer doesn't know what the hell this weird black rectangle is that I keep plugging into it, so here are the things I have tried, and some background info.įirst, I went SCORCHED EARTH ON OLD DRIVERS.

The tablet does not appear to move at all when I click this button, but that's a problem for another day. When I plug it in, my computer treats it like a USB storage device I even have the option to "eject" it. When I open the "Wacom Tablet Properties" app, I am greeted with a message that says "The tablet driver is not responding." When I open the Wacom Desktop Center, it says "No device connected." The tablet IS plugged in, I double-checked.

Pressure sensitivity works in Photoshop, presumably because of some default Windows 10 pen drivers that are just doing their best, but the buttons on the pen and on the tablet are about as useful as a football bat. Upon plugging it in, downloading and installing drivers, and restarting my computer, I found my tablet to be functioning as a very expensive mouse.

I just bought a Wacom Intuos Pro M (PTH-660), and am attempting (unsuccessfully) to use it on my Windows 10 PC.
